Tamper-proof asset tags make it obvious when someone has tried to remove or move a tag. If the tag is peeled off, it tears, breaks up or leaves a mark, so it cannot be quietly transferred to another item. We make tamper-proof and tamper-evident asset tags in Nairobi on aluminium and security polyester, printed with your logo, numbering and barcode or QR code.
Why tamper-proof tags matter
A standard label can be peeled from a stolen laptop and stuck on a cheaper one, or removed so an item looks unowned. Tamper-proof tags close that gap. They protect high-value and portable assets, support investigations when items go missing, and give auditors confidence that a tag still belongs to the asset it was put on.
Types of tamper-proof asset tags
| Type | What happens on removal | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| VOID polyester labels | Leaves a "VOID" pattern on the surface and on the label | Laptops, phones, electronics, sealed equipment |
| Destructible labels | Breaks into small pieces; cannot be removed in one piece | High-theft items, warranty seals |
| Aluminium with acetone-activated adhesive | Bends or tears; adhesive stays bonded | Furniture and equipment needing long life |
| Riveted aluminium tags | Rivets must be drilled out, damaging the tag | Vehicles, machinery, outdoor assets |
| Laser marking | Nothing to remove, the number is engraved | Tools and metal parts |

What goes on a tamper-proof tag
- Your logo and organisation name, so ownership is clear.
- A unique asset number and a barcode or QR code.
- A warning such as "Property of…, removal is an offence" or "Do not remove".

Where to use them
Laptops and tablets issued to staff, projectors and AV equipment, lab instruments, medical devices, school ICT equipment, donor-funded assets and anything that leaves the office. For furniture and heavy equipment, standard aluminium asset tags with permanent adhesive are usually enough.

How tamper-evident labels work
VOID labels use a special layered adhesive. When someone peels the label, the top layer separates and leaves a "VOID" pattern on both the label and the asset, so any attempt to remove it is visible. Destructible labels are made of a brittle film that breaks into fragments when lifted, so the label can't be removed in one piece and reused. Metal tags achieve the same effect through permanent adhesives or rivets: once fixed, they can only be removed by damaging them.

Choosing the right level of security
| Risk | Recommended tag |
|---|---|
| Portable electronics issued to staff | VOID or destructible labels, or aluminium with permanent adhesive |
| Donor-funded equipment in field offices | Aluminium tags naming organisation and donor, permanent adhesive |
| Vehicles and machinery | Riveted aluminium tags plus laser-marked serials |
| Tools that circulate between sites | Laser marking |
| Office furniture | Acetone-activated aluminium tags |

Frequently asked questions
What is a tamper-proof asset tag?
A tag that cannot be removed intact. If someone tries to peel it off, it tears, breaks up or leaves a VOID mark, so it cannot be moved to another item unnoticed.
What is the difference between tamper-proof and tamper-evident?
Tamper-evident labels show that someone tried to remove them, usually with a VOID pattern. Tamper-proof tags are designed so they cannot be removed without being destroyed. Both prevent tags being reused on other items.
Can tamper-proof tags have barcodes?
Yes. We print logos, sequential numbers and barcodes or QR codes on tamper-proof labels and metal tags.
Which tamper-proof option lasts longest?
Aluminium tags with permanent or acetone-activated adhesive, or riveted tags, last the longest. VOID polyester labels suit indoor electronics.
