Laser asset tagging marks an asset number, barcode, QR code or logo directly onto the asset with a laser engraving machine. There is no label to peel off, fade or be removed, the mark is part of the item. We provide laser asset tagging and marking in Kenya on site or in our Nairobi workshop, and supply laser marking machines for organisations that want to mark in-house.
Benefits of laser asset tagging and marking
- Permanent: the mark is engraved or annealed into the surface, so it lasts as long as the asset.
- Tamper-proof: there is nothing to remove or swap between items.
- Fits small items: tools, instruments and parts too small or curved for a tag.
- Resists harsh conditions: heat, oil, solvents, abrasion and outdoor exposure.
- Scannable: barcodes, QR codes and Data Matrix codes can be marked at high contrast.
Surfaces we can laser mark
| Material | Typical assets |
|---|---|
| Steel and stainless steel | Tools, machinery parts, gas cylinders, surgical instruments |
| Aluminium | Equipment housings, nameplates, laptops |
| Plastics | Electronics casings, lab equipment, chairs |
| Wood | Furniture, doors, school desks |
| Coated and painted metal | Cabinets, safes, vehicles and machinery |

Laser asset tagging with a laser engraving machine
Our fibre laser engraving machines mark metals and many plastics quickly and cleanly. For wood and some plastics we use CO2 lasers. Each mark is set up from your asset list, so numbers run in sequence and match your register exactly.

Portable laser marking machine solutions
For large or fixed assets that cannot come to the workshop, a portable laser marking machine lets us mark on site, in offices, workshops, hospitals, schools or yards. This avoids moving equipment and keeps downtime low. We also supply laser marking machines, with setup and training, for organisations that mark new assets continuously. See our laser asset tagging machines.

Applications in Kenyan industries
- Manufacturing and workshops: tools, dies, moulds and spare parts.
- Hospitals: surgical instruments and medical devices that are sterilised repeatedly.
- Construction and logistics: plant equipment, containers and heavy tools.
- Schools and institutions: furniture and lab equipment that must stay marked for years.
- Security and ICT: laptops and devices marked permanently with ownership details.

Laser marking or aluminium tags?
Laser marking is best when a tag won't fit or might be removed. Aluminium asset tags are faster to apply at scale and carry logos in colour. Many projects combine both: aluminium tags for furniture and equipment, laser marks for tools and parts. For other secure options see tamper-proof asset tags and engraved asset tags.

Cost-effective permanent asset marking
Laser marking has no consumables per tag, so cost is driven mainly by the number of assets, the mark size and whether the work is done on site. Send us a list of the assets and materials for a quote, or ask about a machine for in-house marking.
Durable laser marking technology
Laser marking works by changing the surface of the material itself. On metals, the laser either removes a thin layer (engraving) or changes the colour of the surface through heat (annealing), producing dark, high-contrast marks that scanners read easily. On plastics, it foams or darkens the material. Because nothing is added to the surface, there is no ink to fade and no adhesive to fail.
What we can mark
- Asset numbers in your existing format, in sequence.
- Barcodes, QR codes and Data Matrix codes for scanning.
- Logos and ownership text such as "Property of…".
- Serial numbers, part numbers and calibration details.
How a laser tagging job runs
- You send an asset list or a sample of the items and materials.
- We test-mark samples to confirm contrast and readability.
- Assets are marked in our workshop, or on site with a portable machine.
- Each mark is checked and recorded against your register.
Buying a laser marking machine
Organisations that mark new assets every week, manufacturers, hospitals, large institutions, often prefer their own machine. We supply fibre laser marking machines with software, set-up and operator training, and remain available for support. Tell us the materials and item sizes you need to mark, and we will recommend a suitable machine.
Laser engraving for asset identification
For identification, the mark must be readable by people and machines. We combine a human-readable asset number with a machine-readable code, usually a QR or Data Matrix code for small areas, or a barcode where space allows, and size both for the scanning distance. Contrast is tuned per material: dark annealed marks on stainless steel, deep engraving on aluminium and painted metal, and high-contrast marks on plastics.
Quality checks on every laser mark
- Test marks on a sample of each material before the full run.
- Scan checks on codes to confirm they read first time.
- Sequence checks so no number is skipped or repeated.
- A marked-asset list delivered for your register.
Frequently asked questions
What is laser asset tagging?
Laser asset tagging is marking an asset number, barcode, QR code or logo directly onto an item using a laser, instead of attaching a label or tag.
Is laser marking permanent?
Yes. The mark is made in the surface of the material, so it cannot peel off and lasts as long as the item itself under normal use.
Can you laser mark assets on site?
Yes. We use portable laser marking machines to mark large or fixed assets at your premises.
Which materials can be laser marked?
Most metals including steel, stainless steel and aluminium, many plastics, wood and coated surfaces. We test a sample first to confirm contrast.
Do you sell laser marking machines in Kenya?
Yes. We supply laser marking machines with set-up and training. Contact us with the materials you need to mark for a recommendation and quote.
